Project: Wayfinding Signage

Wayfinding Signage mock up

In 2019, the Town of Topsfield engaged with the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) to assist in developing a plan to revitalize the downtown. Through that plan it was identified that there was a lack of signage directing people to the downtown area of Topsfield. At key commuting times there are thousands of cars that travel on Route 1 and Route 97 that do not realize there is a downtown that has shops and services. The Town has completed work with the engineering firm VHB (Watertown, MA) and the design firm, Omloop (Framingham, MA) to develop key locations and designs for wayfinding signage that would welcome travelers to the downtown. The signs, location, style and size has been identified and there is a phased approach to installation.

The Town has selected a sign vendor and is proceeding with phase 1 of the project. This includes the creation and installation of 8 vehicular wayfinder signs, 1 visitor information kiosk and 2 open space identifier signs. Signs are expected to be completed and installed by summer of 2023.
