MBTA Multi-Family District
In January of 2021, the MA Legislature enacted “Housing Choice” – Section 3A of MGL c. 40A.
This established the requirement that “MBTA Communities” create a zoning district in which multi-family housing is permitted by right. This new law requires that an MBTA community shall have at least one zoning district of reasonable size in which multi-family housing is permitted as of right and meets other criteria outlined in the statute:

The Planning Board intends to provide several presentations explaining the proposed MBTA Multi-Family Overlay District and bylaw:

- Public Information Session: Mar 6, 2024, at 7:00 PM in the Topsfield Town Library
- Public Hearing: March 20, 2024, at 7:00 PM via Zoom
