Topsfield's Pond Street Culvert Upgrade Project

Pond Street

The Howlett Brook Watershed Restoration Project seeks to assess and improve fish passage in Howlett Brook by prioritizing and removing barriers to passage for eastern brook trout and river herring. As part of the larger effort, the Town of Topsfield (in conjunction with the Ipswich River Watershed Association) will be installing an upgraded stream crossing at the outlet of Hood Pond at Pond Street. This project is entirely funded by grants and is a key component in building local flood resiliency and ensuring that efforts to reestablish a local herring population will be successful. Once the upgraded work is completed, the culvert will meet MA stream crossing standards and current regulatory guidelines to prevent flooding and allow for wildlife movement under the culvert. Topsfield is thrilled to be a part of this exciting restoration project.
