Topsfield Tomato Festival - Calling all Tomatoes!

Topsfield’s annual Tomato Festival will take place on Saturday, September 10th from 11-3 on the Proctor School grounds.  Designed as a family-friendly event with games, contests, live music, community groups and a Farmers’ Market, the Tomato Festival will be a great opportunity to meet and greet friends and neighbors as we celebrate Topsfield’s agricultural heritage and our community.

Among the Festival’s featured activities are tomato contests for children and adults.  Now is the time to be nurturing your tomatoes if you would like to participate in the contests.

There will be four divisions in the tomato contests – elementary school students , youth (grades 7-12), adult (18+) and public safety.  Hannah Menzer of Alfalfa Farm will head up the judging for the adult and public safety divisions, and Sarah Ponikvar with the boy and girl scouts will head up the elementary school and youth divisions.  For full information please visit the Tomato Festival on the Topsfield Community Partnership website.

There will also be “tasting judging” for tomato sauce, uncooked tomato dishes and cooked tomato dishes.  All are welcome to submit their family’s favorite.  Of course, you don’t need to grow the tomatoes for this contest.

Watch for the invasion of the scarecrows that is coming soon.  Scavenger hunt forms will be available at Town Hall and Steward and Proctor schools.  Find the scarecrows to be eligible for a raffle for prizes!

Whether you are nurturing your plants, experimenting in the kitchen, or doing both, have a tomato-filled day!
