Topsfield Crews Respond to Fatal Crash on Route 1

Chief Jenifer Collins-Brown and Police Chief Neal Hovey report that this morning August 17, 2023 just after 7:30 AM, a bus driver noticed a vehicle that had left the roadway and crashed some time before on Boston St (Route 1) pointed northbound along the southbound lane of the road. Topsfield Police and Fire were dispatched immediately and arrived minutes later to find a sole male occupant with severe traumatic injuries. Topsfield paramedics gained access to the passenger compartment to evacuate the patient who unfortunately was unable to be aided due to both the severity of his injuries and the time that had obviously passed since the actual accident occurred. Fire crews remained on scene to assist in the victims recovery and to mitigate a fuel leak before the vehicle was removed. The crash and cause of the accident are under investigation by the Topsfield Police Department, Massachusetts State Police, and Essex County D.A.’s Office. As always our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim of this tragic occurrence.
