Open Burning
All burning permits are available for purchase using Topsfield's online payment system, "City Hall Systems".
Burning process:
- Purchase your permit online for $10.50 or $11.00 depending on you method of payment.
- Each day you want to burn brush activate the permit on the City Hall Systems Page.
- If burning is not allowed on a particular day, you will not be able to activate the permit online. We update that status daily.
Burning Guidelines:
- Burning will be allowed only on the property designated on this permit.
- Burning is allowed between January 15 and May 1.
- Burning is allowed between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
- All fires shall be started no later than noon and be extinguished by 4 p.m.
- Burning shall be at least 75 feet from all structures.
- Burning must take place on land closest to the source of material.
- The fire shall be attended until completely extinguished.
- There shall be available a water supply at all times.
- Fire shall be burned down to coals and covered with snow, water, sand or soil.
Items that may be burned:
- Brush
- Cane
- Forestry Debris from residential operations.
- No debris from commercial or industrial land clearing operations may be burned
