Citizen Petitions

Voters may "insert" articles into a Town Meeting Warrant by submitting a written request of the Article, with the required number of voter signatures, to the Select Board office. This is referred to as a Citizen Petition. A voter's article may be inserted into the warrant for an Annual Town Meeting or a Special Town Meeting. It may also "call" for a Special Town Meeting. The number of voter signatures required for a Citizen Petition depends on the type of meeting to which the article is being added. The Select Board will provide the petitions to the Town Clerk, who will certify the signatures. Below are links to important information to help residents who wish to submit a Citizen Petition:

Voters may refer to a copy of the annual report to guide them when drafting their articles for a Citizen Petition. For further assistance, they may contact the Town Clerk.
