Trench Regulations
A trench permit is required (but not limited to) for the following:
- Percolation Tests
- Soil Evaluations
- Laying of Pipes (including on farms)
- Installing a new septic system
- Installing a swimming pool.
What is a trench?
(A) According to MGL c. 82A and 520 CMR 14.02, a trench is defined as "an excavation which is narrow in relation to its length, made below the surface ground in excess of three feet below grade and depth of which is, in general, greater than the width of the trench, as measured at the bottom is not greater than 15 feet."
