Description:

The Affordable Housing Committee is appointed by the Board of Selectmen.  The purpose of the Affordable Housing Committee is to increase the ratio of affordable housing units in town and thereby offering a wider range of housing options for the community. This we believe will add diversity to the town making it a more vibrant community. Our strategies are:

  • Review parcels of town owned land for assessing the feasibility and appropriateness of constructing affordable housing units on them.
  • Explore sources of public funding and grant money available for the Town to create and administer affordable housing.
  • Establish partnerships with financial institutions for the purpose of creating affordable home ownership opportunities and special programs for the construction and purchase of affordable housing units.
  • Create a non-profit affordable housing trust whose mission will be to contribute to the creation of new affordable housing units and the maintenance of units already existing.
  • Seek and encourage partnerships with private developers when land becomes available for the purpose of constructing affordable housing.

The Committee has also created an "Affordable Housing Trust" and is seeking status as a non- profit entity from the State Department of Revenue to help finance future creature of affordable housing units in town.
