Description:
The Topsfield Rail Trail Committee is a Selectmen appointed committee of volunteers.
Created in April, 2005 the committee's purpose is to lay the groundwork for construction of a recreational path in Topsfield.
The 3.9 mile path will use the abandoned MBTA railway corridor that goes from the Danvers line to Washington St. It then continues to the Boxford town line. that portion is owned by the NationalGrid electric company. Tentatively named the "TLC", or Topsfield Linear Common, the path will connect the Topsfield Fair Grounds with the center of town (and the Proctor School), and then continue to by Pye Brook Community Park.
Responsibilities of the committee include working with the trail owners, the MBTA and NationalGrid, funding aspects, community outreach, design, building, and maintenance of the trail.
